Ancestral Oil Lamp #2

Ancestral Oil Lamp #2

SKU: SKU004
$30.00Price

Oil lamp based on prehistoric lamps found in France – very simple design – I made one as a test and it works nicely.  The lamp comes with one wick (more can be purchased online) or you can make your own using plants fibers/cordage. I make my own wick using mugwort leaves.

Dip the wick in oil and place as per the photo. It may smoke a bit for a few seconds then it will stop smoking.

This is a decorative pottery although it can be used, I would not leave unattended as there are no safety features.

Transparent glaze

Wild clay from Southern California (Valyermo). The collected clay is reduced into powder using my stone grinder (Molcajete) then water is added to reach the right consistency and make the clay workable.

Hand build

Fired 3 times at cone 03 (2014 °F – 1100 °C) using my electric kiln.

Diameter: 3.5 inches (8 cm)

Height: 1.5 inches (4 cm)

Weight: 4.125 ounces (120 gr)
