Desert “Chalk” Cup  #2

Desert “Chalk” Cup  #2

SKU: SKU025
$85.00Price

This one is great for drinking elderberry wine. Small drinking vessel, not sure if I should call it a cup or a mug. Usually, I use 3 different stones to make my glaze but this time I skipped two of them and only kept the white one. I talked to a local geologist and it’s basically a type of chalk from a source I found in the desert. It melts beautifully at high temperatures.

The chalk is ground by hand using my stone grinder (Molcajete), mixed with pinyon pine ashes then applied to the cup with a brush on the outside. Homemade white glaze inside.

Made from a mix of local clay and commercial clay.

Mixed building techniques – Wheel and hand building

Fired at cone 6 (2200 °F – 1204 °C) using my electric kiln.
