Desert Mug #3
This one is rather special, the fibers used (made from yucca) were dyed using a pinecones and sagebrush dye which made the color match the clay. The cup is food safe, can be used with your favorite wild beer or your morning coffee.
Mixed techniques - Wheel, hand build and stones tools.
Glaze made with Mojave desert chalk ground by hand using my molcajete (stone grinder). Chalk is mixed with local water, mugwort beer vinegar and xantham gum to make it easier to apply with a brush.
Handle made with yucca dyed fibers.
Clay is a mix of mountain dirt (Valyermo) and commercial clay.
Fired at Cone 6 - 2200°F (1200°C) in my electric kiln.
