Pine Needles Tea - Teapot
Another one of my favorite pottery pieces and I’ve used to make Pinyon Pine needles tea. This teapot was hand build with clay collected in the local hills (Valyermo – Southern California). The handle is made of a recycled (dead) Manzanita branch partly burned in the 2020 forest fire (Bobcat fire). The wood was treated with beeswax and attached to the pot using wildcrafted pinyon pine pitch glue (Mix of pine sap, charcoal and beeswax).
It's somewhat small and will hold ¾ cup of liquid (175 ml), enough to share with a friend. The top of the pot is made of a stone and dried mugwort. The stone was picked up in a local river wash specifically for that teapot.
The teapot can be used but I think it’s mostly a beautiful decorative piece. It comes with two small cups made of the same clay which were fired in an electric kiln but also pit fired afterwards. Don’t place the teapot over flames or stove.
Beautiful texture created by stones present in the unprocessed clay. The collected clay is reduced into powder using my stone grinder (Molcajete) then water is added to reach the right consistency and make the clay workable.
Hand build. Glazed inside and partly glazed outside.
Fired twice at cone 03 (2014 °F – 1100 °C) using my electric kiln and pit fired with the cups.
Transparent and white glaze made with natural ingredients (Non-toxic).
