Pinyon Pine Needles Tea Cup

Pinyon Pine Needles Tea Cup

Crude small teacup made with clay foraged in the local hills of Valyermo, California. Perfect size for serving pinyon pine needles tea or any other tea.  It’s rough and irregular, the impurities in the clay made it difficult to work with on the wheel but I kinda like the result, it’s beautifully imperfect.  There is one stone really sticking out off the side, I’m amazed the cup didn’t break during firing.

The collected clay is reduced into powder using my stone grinder (Molcajete) then water is added to reach the right consistency and make the clay workable.

Hand build and wheel. Glazed inside and partly glazed outside.

Fired twice at cone 03 (2014 °F – 1100 °C) using my electric kiln.

Transparent and white glaze made with natural ingredients (Non-toxic). The glazes are artistically applied with a brush.

Diameter: 3.5 inches (9 cm)

Height: 1.75 inches (4.5 cm)

Weight: 7 1/4 ounces (206 g)
