Thumb Grinder (Larger)
This is a tool I created for myself and decided to do a couple more if anyone is interested. I’m currently working on a new book about edible wild seeds and grains, this type of grinders was designed to remove the husk of some more “reticent” grains such as wild oats. You basically use your thumb and rub the grains against the rough surface of the grinder to remove the husk. It works well for small production and some grains. This one is slightly bigger than the other one – for someone with larger hands.
Made from a mix of local clay and clay mined in Southern California.
Transparent glaze and iron oxides.
Mixed building techniques – Wheel and hand building
Fired at cone 6 (2200 °F – 1204 °C) using my electric kiln.
Dimensions
Diameter 5 inches (13 cm)
Height: 2.5 inches (6 cm)
Weight: 17.2 oz (510 gr)
Don't forget to read the section about pottery care.
