Wild Clay Cup

Wild Clay Cup

Small Cup – Pine Pitch “glaze”

Wild Clay cup (Pit fired and pine pitch on the exterior). Originally the cup was made a test for the pine pitch research, but it ended up so nice that I kept it.

This rustic cup is made with a mix of unprocessed local wild clay (Valyermo – Southern California) and clay from Duluth Minnesota. The collected clay is reduced into powder using my stone grinder (Molcajete) then water is added to reach the right consistency and make the clay workable.

Hand build. Homemade white glaze inside and transparent glaze partly outside. The cup was also pit fired and pine pitch added on the outside as an additional “glaze”.  Clay colored with iron oxides.

Fired 3 times at cone 03 (2014 °F – 1100 °C) using my electric kiln and pit fired.

Diameter: 2.75 inches (7 cm)

Height: 2 inches (5 cm)

Weight: 4.25 ounces (122 gr)
