Wild Grains Storage Container
This vessel was used to store the wild oats grains foraged late Spring.
Made from a mix of local clay and clay mined in Southern California.
Glazes made from rocks collected in the mountains and white “chalk” foraged in the Mojave desert. The rocks are slowly broken and ground by hand into a fine powder then mixed with various amounts of pinyon pine and scrub oak ashes to create different hues. Homemade white glaze inside. The whole process is quite lengthy, and several firings are often required.
Stone and Miner’s lettuce fibers on top.
Mixed building techniques – Wheel and coil
Fired at cone 6 (2200 °F – 1204 °C) using my electric kiln.
