Wild Oats Storage Vessel

One of my favorite wild seeds and grains storage vessel.  I’ve used it with wild oats and thistle sage grains. The colors and texture are beautiful. 
 
Made from a mix of local clay and clay mined in Southern California. 
 
Glazes made from rocks collected in the mountains and white “chalk” foraged in the Mojave desert. The rocks are slowly broken and ground by hand into a fine powder then mixed with various amounts of pinyon pine and scrub oak ashes to create different hues. Homemade white glaze inside. The whole process is quite lengthy, and several firings are often required. 
 
Mixed building techniques – Wheel and hand building
 
Fired at cone 6 (2200 °F – 1204 °C) using my electric kiln.
