Desert Side Dishes
Shallow, handbuilt side dishes with an uneven, rocky rim and soft ash glaze pooling along the interior. The coarse, mineral surface contrasts with the smooth inner bowl, giving it a grounded, tactile feel. Ideal for small ferments, pickles, sauces, or shared side dishes.
Created using a mix of clay and desert soil.
Glaze made from pine and oak ashes and white “chalk” foraged in the Mojave desert near Valyermo, California.
Handmade with stone tools
Fired at cone 6 (2200 °F – 1204 °C) using my electric kiln.
Approximate dimensions:
4.5 x 4.5 inches (11.5 x 11.5 cm)
Height: 3 inches – 8 cm
Weight: 11.6 Oz (332 gr)
