Desert teapot and cups

Desert teapot and cups

Each teapot has its own personality and this one is a good reflection of the local terroir. This smallish teapot is great for making wild mint or pine needles tea. Lovely texture created by the wild components used.

Mixed techniques - Wheel, hand build and stones tools.

Glaze made with Mojave desert chalk ground by hand using my molcajete (stone grinder). Chalk is mixed with local water, mugwort beer vinegar and xantham gum to make it easier to apply with a brush.

Handle made with recycled black oak deadwood and old wires found in the desert.

Clay is a mix of mountain dirt (Valyermo) and locally mined clay. Both the teapot and cups are food safe.
