Herbal Infusions Vessel
One of my favorite pieces.
A vessel shaped for wild herbal waters, primitive ferments, and the quiet flavors of the mountains.I’ve used it during my classes to serve infusions made with plants foraged around Valyermo — mugwort, wild mints, white fir, yerba santa and many others. The dark clay and deeply textured surface seem to slow things down, giving the experience an earthy and almost ancient feeling.
Made from wild desert clay foraged around Valyermo, California, then pit fired. The dramatic texture is not simply the result of firing, but intentionally built into the vessel itself during the making process — layer by layer, using hand-building techniques, stone tools, pressure, tearing, scraping and raw natural materials to create a surface reminiscent of weathered stone, cooled lava, bark and eroded earth.
The vessel is waterproofed inside and outside with organic beeswax, preserving both its functionality and raw tactile character.
Yucca fiber cordage
Cloth dyed with natural clay pigments
Stone lid to protect infusions and ferments from insects and dust
The stone can be placed on top during fermentation for mead, herbal ales, or primitive natural wines — a simple old-world solution that feels timeless.
Created entirely by hand using mixed techniques and stone tools.
Both functional and sculptural, this is a piece meant to be lived with.
Shipped with the cloth, stone and cordage
