Mojave Bowl
This desert bowl is shaped for food that carries time in it. Its low, open form makes it especially suited for serving ferments—kimchi, sauerkraut-style vegetables, wild food salads, and other fermented or fresh preparations. The irregular rim and weight of the bowl invite casual use rather than precious handling.
It is made from clay mixed with desert soil, giving the surface a quiet mineral presence that feels closer to ground than glaze. The bowl was finished with a natural glaze made from pine and oak ashes and white “chalk” foraged in the Mojave Desert, producing soft, earthy tones that shift subtly with light and use.
Handmade using stone tools, this piece carries an intentionally raw, ancestral quality—more aligned with everyday use than refinement—meant to be part of the table, not separate from it.
Fired at cone 6 (2200 °F – 1204 °C) using my electric kiln.
