Moonshine Bottle and Cups 002
This set made of wild clay and clay miner in Southern California, titled Moonshine Bottle and Cups, presents a truly rustic and organic aesthetic, very similar to the raw aesthetic of the desert. The bottle has an asymmetrical, handcrafted shape, with a slight bulge at the top, adding character to its form. The white glaze, made with local rocks and ashes has been applied sparingly, accentuating certain areas and giving a soft contrast against the rough clay body. The cups echo this rugged look, with a similar coarse texture and uneven, rounded rims.
You’re not stuck with using moonshine btw, I use a similar set for many of my natural boozy concoctions. Great for sharing a drink with a friend or someone you love.
Mixed techniques - Wheel, hand build and stones tools.
Glaze made with Mojave desert "chalk" ground by hand using my molcajete (stone grinder) and mixed with oak/pine ashes.
Clay is a mix of mountain dirt (Valyermo) and commercial clay. Both the bottle and cups are food safe.
Fired at Cone 6 - 2200°F (1200°C) in my electric kiln.
